Guiding Principles for Open Studies
- Open Studies are based on curricula of Universities of Applied Sciences and they are open to everyone regardless of age or educational background.
- Foreign students need a visa or residence permit depending on their nationality. More information can be found on the home pages of Finnish Directorate of Immigration at www.uvi.fi
- Open Studies can be accomplished either in groups with degree programme students or by participating in separately organised courses. Studying with degree programme students is called integrated learning.
- Open Studies can be accomplished as direct contact learning, blended learning and e-learning. Web-based studies can be undertaken independently, regardless of time and place.
- You study in classrooms, small groups, laboratories and studios, at home and at work. You listen, read, write, discuss and acquire knowledge through down-to-earth methods.
- You can divide your studies into periods best suited to your own schedule. Do bear in mind, however, that studying always requires initiative, time and systematic planning.
- When open studies end, you will get either an official transcript of records or a certificate, depending on the University of Applied Sciences.
- If you decide to study a degree programme later, you can apply for addition of your open study credits into our degree studies. Upon starting degree studies, remember to discuss the eligibility of such credit transfer with your tutor or lecturer.
- Open Studies are not regarded as full-time studying as they do not lead to graduation. Therefore you are not entitled to study grant or other study-related social benefits.
- Do no hesitate to turn us if you have any questions. We at Open Studies, both staff, student offices, tutors and lecturers, are here to help you in any study-related questions or problems.
