A learning plan is a goal-oriented action plan and personal commitment to learning, which should be built in the early stage of studies. It is designed to clarify the starting-points, goals, expectations and schedules for studying. Well planned is half-done, as we say in Finland. A good learning plan supports purpose-driven studying and practical arrangements. Make your learning plan look like you and as concrete as possible, which makes it easier to commit yourself to. Be realistic with your plans and remember to take into account your work, family, leisure time and sufficient sleep. The plan should be flexible so that it can be later refined, if necessary. It is advisable to update the plan for instance every six months.
When building your learning plan, you can use a planning form. This form is a guided planning tool which includes the following parts: setting the goals, how to reach the goals, schedules, challenges, learning and guidance and assessment of studies. The plan can be printed.
